The story is still being written weekly…
Since September 2021 (earlier actually) back and forth conversation between the Skate/Bike/Scoot community with City Council has taken place. We have had many conversations and attempted to resolve multiple issues. At the time this is being written 5-5-21 City Council has proposed making this a “Topic on a workshop agenda” so we can discuss with council, staff and the community… Working on scheduling that.
UPDATE 5-28-21 There was a City Parks and Rec meeting scheduled for 6-2 and Lincoln Skate and Bike Assocation was actually on the agenda. It was canceled and a new date has yet to be determined.
UPDATE October 2021 There was a very short Parks and Recreation meeting where the outcome was McBean ultimately was too dangerous of a location. Local law enforcement was asked to speak said that it could not be safely patrolled. Yes, we know its right next to Basketball Courts, Dog Park, Pool, Baseball, Shooting Range and some how that is safe? But Skate area is not… The city staff has been actively considering interim locations for almost a year with no other options while Community Center plan moves forward. Call & Email the City Hall and contact your local city council member to let them know you are unhappy with the lack of progress and plan for the community. 916-434-2400
The goal is to have some donated obstacles/features while we wait to see if we are going to get the grant for the Community Center Park. The issue they present is they feel the “cracks are dangerous in the concrete since someone sued for tripping over a pebble” (seriously that’s what they said). We have reminded them multiple times they are much smaller than sidewalk cracks (more like fractures) and NOT hazardous for our multiple sports. There is no liability for the city due to this code and we should have immunity based on California Government Code ยง 831.7 – Hazardous recreational activities; failure to guard or warn; negligence; duty of care.

We will keep you posted as the situation progresses but that’s where it stands now while we schedule/organize the work shop…

UPDATE ———–12-22-22————– To much to type… Worked hard just not going to work at this location for many reasons the city has… Keeping this page up as proof of effort and yes it actually paid off… Kinda… November 30th 2022 at Robert Chief Jimenez Park in Lincoln we added multiple features for the community to skate on… For now we are taking the less is more approach especially since space is limited to one Basket Ball Court but we are working on a plan for bigger and better… To Be Continued
